Eni avvia un importante progetto di sviluppo del gas in Libia
Tripoli (Libia), 28 gennaio 2023 – L’amministratore delegato di Eni, Claudio Descalzi, e l’amministratore delegato della National Oil Corporation (NOC), Farhat Bengdara, hanno siglato oggi un accordo per avviare lo sviluppo delle “Strutture A&E”, un progetto strategico volto ad aumentare la produzione di gas per rifornire il mercato interno libico, oltre a garantire l’esportazione di volumi in Europa. L’accordo è stato firmato alla presenza del Presidente del Consiglio italiano, Giorgia Meloni, e del Primo Ministro del Governo di unità nazionale libico, Abdul Hamid Al-Dbeibah.
“Strutture A&E” è il primo grande progetto ad essere sviluppato nel paese dall’inizio del 2000. Consiste in due giacimenti a gas, chiamati rispettivamente “Stuttura A” e “Struttura E”, situati nell’area contrattuale D, al largo della Libia. La produzione di gas inizierà nel 2026 e raggiungerà un plateau di 750 milioni di piedi cubi di gas standard al giorno.
La produzione sarà assicurata attraverso due piattaforme principali collegate agli impianti di trattamento esistenti presso il complesso di Mellitah. Il progetto prevede anche la costruzione di un impianto di cattura e stoccaggio dell’anidride carbonica (CCS) a Mellitah, che consentirà una significativa riduzione dell’impronta carbonica complessiva, in linea con la strategia di decarbonizzazione di Eni. L’investimento complessivo è stimato in 8 miliardi di dollari, con un impatto significativo sull’industria e sulla relativa catena di fornitura, fornendo un contributo significativo all’economia libica.
L’Amministratore Delegato di Eni, Claudio Descalzi, ha dichiarato: “L’accordo di oggi consentirà di effettuare importanti investimenti nel settore dell’energia in Libia, contribuendo allo sviluppo e alla creazione di lavoro nel Paese, e rafforzando la posizione di Eni come primo operatore in Libia.”
Eni è il principale produttore internazionale di gas in Libia, con una quota dell’80% della produzione nazionale (1,6 bscfd nel 2022). La società opera in Libia dal 1959 e attualmente dispone di un ampio portafoglio di asset in esplorazione, produzione e sviluppo. Le attività produttive sono operate attraverso la società mista Mellitah Oil and Gas BV (Eni 50%, NOC 50%). La produzione equity è stata di 165.000 barili di petrolio equivalente al giorno nel 2022.

“Structures A&E” is the first major project in the country since the early 2000. It consists of the development of two gas fields, namely Structures “A” and “E”, located in the contractual area D, offshore Libya. The combined gas production from the two structures will start in 2026 and reach a plateau of 750 million of standard gas cubic feet per day.
Production will be ensured through two main platforms tied-in to the existing treatment facilities at the Mellitah Complex. The project also includes the construction of a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility at Mellitah, allowing a significant reduction of the overall carbon footprint, in line with Eni’s decarbonization strategy. The overall estimated investment will amount to 8 billion USD, with significant impact on the industry and the associated supply chain, allowing a significant contribution to the Libyan economy.
