(AGENPARL) - Roma, 4 Aprile 2025 - On the day that Germany and Austria announced sanctions against the Republika Srpska leadership, the German Minister for Europe and Climate, Anna Lirmann, arrived in Banja Luka for a meeting with Igor Crnadak, head of the parliamentary group of the Party of Democratic Progress (PDP).
Crnadak initially attempted to institutionalise the visit, announcing that the meeting would be held at the National Assembly of Republika Srpska. However, the Srpska institutions rejected this possibility, interpreting the visit as a provocation in the context of the sanctions imposed by Berlin and Vienna.
Consequently, the venue of the meeting has been changed and will be held at 5pm at the PDP headquarters, marking a change from the original schedule.
The sanctions imposed by Germany and Austria are yet another demonstration of the increasing international pressure on the Republika Srpska leadership. The German government justified the decision by accusing Srpska’s leaders of undermining Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constitutional order, while from Banja Luka they speak of an act of political interference aimed at destabilising the Serbian entity.
The meeting between Lirmann and Crnadak comes at a time of high political tensions, with Srpska defending its autonomy and the international community increasing pressure for greater alignment with Sarajevo. It remains to be seen what the consequences of these new sanctions will be and how relations between Germany and the Republika Srpska leadership will evolve.
