Dear partners, colleagues and friends of SEI,
It is with great pride that I share our strategy for 2025-29: Transitions in turbulent times (https://www.sei.org/publications/sei-strategy-2025-29/) .
This strategy builds on our 35-year legacy of excellence while addressing the urgent need for renewal and innovation in the face of complex global challenges. It reflects our unwavering commitment to tackling the interconnected crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and inequality, while embracing new opportunities to advance sustainable development.
We are in the midst of turbulent change globally. Climate and environmental pressures are intensifying, and geopolitical uncertainties are reshaping global cooperation. Yet significant opportunities are emerging from technological advances like artificial intelligence and renewable energy, alongside growing investment in electrified transport and sustainable industrial processes.
SEI’s new strategy embraces this dual reality, charting a bold course for action and progress.

We have set out five strategic directions to turn commitments into measurable impact:
1. Accelerating implementation to move faster on global commitments and achieve measurable results.
2. Innovating in emerging research areas, from critical raw materials to the sustainability of artificial intelligence.
3. Strengthening research-to-policy networks to connect knowledge with action through trusted partnerships.
4. Enhancing data use and analysis to support evidence-based decisions with advanced tools and methodologies.
5. Promoting “One SEI” to foster deeper collaboration and amplify our collective impact across our global centres.
