CUT congratulates Dr Charity Mbileni-Morema as the new Council Chairperson
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) Council has elected Dr Charity Mbileni-Morema as the new Chairperson. Dr Mbileni-Morema has been a member of the CUT Council since November 2018.
Her appointment is another successful chapter of transformation in the university’s history and the continued commitment by the university to the principle of excellence and equity.
She brings impeccable credentials into her new portfolio as Chairperson of the Council. Dr Mbileni-Morema holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of the Witwatersrand and an MBA from Herriot-Watt University in the UK.
Mbileni-Morema has worked in both the public and private sectors with a solid business background and a competent understanding of governance and the responsibilities of a non-executive director, including fiduciary duties. She is the Managing Director of NM Envirotech Solutions- a company she established focusing on advisory services and technology development in Science, Technology, Innovation and Green Economy.
She is no stranger to corporate governance, as she is a member of the Independent Institute of Directors of South Africa (IoDSA) while serving on various boards such as the Innovation Hub, an innovation catalyst of Gauteng Province, the South African Manufacturing and Technology Demonstration Centre (SMTDC), an incubator by SEDA as a chairperson respectively, A Council Member of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) – Advisory Council that advises the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation on Innovation and Technological matters in the Country.
Dr Mbileni-Morema’s vision entails bringing stability, cohesion and collegiality to the Council while executing respective fiduciary duties. Furthermore, she envisages strengthening accountability by implementing effective and efficient leadership and rebuilding trust amongst CUT stakeholders and the Ministry (DHET).
