Higher farm incomes in 2025 welcomed – Muir
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir has welcomed the increase in farm incomes for 2025.
The Minister was commenting following the publication of the first (provisional) estimate of farm incomes for 2025, which indicates that the 'Total Income from Farming' (TIFF) in Northern Ireland increased by 40.5% (35.6% in real terms), from £736 million in 2024 to £1.03 billion in 2025.
Mr Muir said: "I welcome the increase in Total Income from Farming between 2024 and 2025. This increase is due to strong market demand for Northern Ireland produce both in terms of price and volume. Farm level income estimates also show that increases are expected across most farm types."
Minister Muir continued: "The agriculture sector as a whole performed strongly in 2025 with high prices for most commodities particularly milk, beef and pigs. While these results are positive, I recognise that market prices have fallen considerably in 2026 while input costs have risen with an uncertain outlook for the period ahead.
"These market developments are outside the control of my Department but volatile markets do highlight the importance of the Sustainable Agriculture Programme (SAP) which is designed to improve the resilience of farm businesses and help withstand shocks that are beyond their ability to manage effectively and encourage businesses to become more environmentally sustainable and efficient."
