This quote is attributable to ICRC President, Mirjana Sporljaric following her remarks at European Humanitarian Forum in Brussels, Belgium on 20 May 2025.
“The immense suffering caused by the international armed conflict can only be fully addressed through a lasting peace agreement. Ongoing hostilities continue to inflict severe harm on civilians and devastate critical infrastructure. International humanitarian law must be respected if we are to reduce the generational toll of this conflict. Tens of thousands of people are missing or detained, each one leaving behind loved ones desperate for answers. Every effort to reunite these families is vital and represents a crucial step toward lasting peace and recovery.”
