** Bloomsday Film Festival News!
————————————————————
As the Bloomsday Film Festival (http://www.bloomsdayfestival.ie/filmfestival?mc_cid=3954dff5e1&mc_eid=UNIQID) approaches the deadline for film submissions for Bloomsday 2025- they’re delighted to bring on board a new brand sponsor, Writers’ Tears Irish Whiskey (https://www.walshwhiskey.com/our-whiskeys/our-whiskeys-writers-tears/?mc_cid=3954dff5e1&mc_eid=UNIQID), to support the unique festival experience – blending film and literature in celebration of James Joyce’s relationship with cinema. Writers’ Tears Irish Whiskeys is inspired by the golden era of Irish whiskey, pot still distillation and the creative thinkers and artists, such as James Joyce that define Irish culture.
Writers’ Tears will provide a cash prize of €1000 to the winner of the Best Overall Short Film
Speaking about the new partnership, award-winning filmmaker and founder of the Bloomsday Film Festival Tommy Creagh commented:
“We are over the moon to have Writers’ Tears sponsoring us this year. Their celebration of the Golden Age of Irish Whiskey and Irish Literature in their brand couldn’t be more in line with what we ourselves are celebrating with the film festival. We can’t wait for audiences to enjoy tasting some quality Irish Whiskey while watching some quality films.”
In poetry news, this year Bloomsday Film Festival will dedicate a full programme to Adrian Brinkerhoff poetry films, produced by festival founder and director Tommy Creagh. The programme will include previous films as part of Joyce’s ‘Universal City’ theme and an exciting selection of new works not seen before.
The Best Irish Poetry film will be presented in association with Poetry Ireland with a prize of €200
The festival kicks off on Thursday 12th June with an Opening Gala event in the stunning period surroundings of the James Joyce Centre on North Great George’s Street with Writers’ Tears drinks reception and entertainment including a performance from Tbilisi Contemporary Ballet from Georgia.
Throughout the weekend, the Bloomsday Film Festival will present an eclectic programme of events at the James Joyce Centre, Belvedere House and the Irish Film Institute, interspersed by Writers’ Tears whiskey tastings and receptions.
A selection of the best Joycean and literary short films, feature films and documentaries will be screened, in addition to poetry, experimental films and Dublin themed works.
The Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday 15th June at Belvedere House in Dublin where Writers’ Tears will present the award for Best Overall Short Film.
The festival culminates on Bloomsday, Monday 16th June at the Irish Film Institute with more special events
