Teacher Bulletin
Today is World Mental Health Day, which is about raising awareness and driving positive change for everyone’s mental health. This year’s theme, set by the World Foundation of Mental Health, is ‘Mental health is a universal human right’.
This Teacher Bulletin brings together a range of resources and advice to help children and young people with their mental health and wellbeing.

*Senior mental health lead training *
All state schools and colleges can claim a £1,200 grant [ https://onlinecollections.des.fasst.org.uk/fastform/senior-mental-health-leads?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] to fund DfE quality assured mental health lead training [ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/senior-mental-health-lead-training?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]to help them develop their school or college approach to promoting and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of pupils and staff.
If you previously claimed a grant and your trained lead has left your setting, you can also now apply for a 2nd grant.

*Mental health support teams *
We are extending coverage of mental health support teams in schools and colleges to at least 50% of pupils/students in England by March 2025.

There is also support available to both teachers and school leaders to support your own wellbeing and address challenges around workload. This includes*:*
* Co-created with the sector, the Education Staff Wellbeing Charter [ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/education-staff-wellbeing-charter?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] sets out shared commitments to promote, protect and enhance the wellbeing of staff. *Reducing staff workload *
* Developed with school leaders, the school workload reduction toolkit [ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/school-workload-reduction-toolkit?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] includes practical resources to help schools identify and address workload issues, as well as evaluating the impact of any steps you’ve taken.

The NHS Every Mind Matters [ https://www.nhs.uk/every-mind-matters/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] website offers valuable advice for spotting and supporting children’s mental health issues and encouraging young people to look after their mental wellbeing, as well as a NHS-endorsed digital content and classroom resources, developed in partnership with clinical and academic experts and end users.
The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities offers lesson plans, written and peer reviewed by teachers, for Year 6 and Key Stages 3 and 4 to support the RSHE curriculum and enable teachers to support pupil wellbeing. There are anti-bullying school resources [ https://anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk/anti-bullying-week/school-resources?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] for primary and secondary ages, including cross-curricular activities and lesson and assembly plans. Your school can also register for a whole-school anti-bullying programme: The United Against Bullying programme [ https://anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk/aba-our-work/united-against-bullying-uab-programme?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].
Later in the term, the Department will also launch a new hub full of practical resources and tools for mental health leads developing a whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing, and a toolkit to help schools and colleges develop their targeted mental wellbeing support offer for children and young people.
