Track media for storm updates and other emergency information. Follow the directions of local authorities. If asked to evacuate, do so immediately.
Go to a safe area in your home such as a small interior room, closet, or hallway on the lowest level during the storm. Put as many walls between you and the outside as you can.
Stay away from all windows, skylights and glass doors. Secure exterior doors.
If the power is out, use flashlights instead of candles.
Never use portable gasoline or coal-burning equipment or camp stoves inside your home, basement, or garage.
If you lose power, keep the refrigerator closed to keep cold air trapped and delay spoiling food.
