Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya will travel to Berlin, Germany to lead the U.S. delegation to the Equal Rights Coalition (ERC) 2024 Conference from December 16-18, 2024, organized by ERC Co-Chairs Germany and Mexico. The Under Secretary will be joined by Special Envoy to Advance the Human Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI+) Persons Jessica Stern.
At the ERC 2024 Conference, Under Secretary Zeya will participate in a panel discussion focused on the challenges of integrating LGBTQI+ individuals into humanitarian and crisis response policies and programs. She will underscore U.S. government efforts to advance LGBTQI+ inclusion in humanitarian contexts, including through partnerships with governments, international organizations, and civil society. On the margins, the Under Secretary and Special Envoy Stern will engage senior government officials of ERC Member States to advance human rights and humanitarian cooperation on global challenges.
