Despite nearly ten years of capacity building, Mali is arguably the least secure it has been in decades. Though U.S. security assistance is now completely restricted after a series of coups, years of efforts by the U.S., France, and other international partners have left the Malian people more vulnerable to civilian harm than at any time in recent memory.
Security Assistance Monitor’s latest factsheet discusses the reasons for this failure and provides an overview of key facts, data points, and analysis related to the U.S. partnership with Mali in the context of ongoing civilian protection and humanitarian assistance concerns.
