City of Toronto selected for Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance to enhance resident services though data and AI
The City of Toronto has been selected to join the Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance (the Alliance), a program that supports municipalities across the Americas in using data, digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve public services.
Toronto is one of only 15 new municipalities chosen for the 10-month initiative. The program will enable the City to upskill staff in digital and AI tools, collaborate with experts to design resident-centered services and join a network of cities across the Americas to share strategies and best practices.
The City of Toronto will identify specific projects as the partnership progresses and believes the program can harness insights that will help advance the City’s key priority areas and support service delivery for residents.
Cities in the Alliance have already reported powerful results from the program including streamlining housing applications in Seattle, accelerating disaster recovery in Tampa Bay, improving water conservation in Argentina and faster flood detection in the Dominican Republic.
The Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance (https://bloombergcities.jhu.edu/program/data-alliance) is delivered in partnership with the Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence (GovEx) at Johns Hopkins University. It now includes 80 cities representing 78 million residents across 12 countries.
Quote:
“We need to look at new and innovative ways to tackle the challenges Torontonians care most about. This partnership can give us the data and technology to better understand and deliver on services that are timelier and more impactful for our residents.”
