Fighting money-laundering and the financing of terrorism.* MEPs from the Economic Affairs and Civil Liberties committees and Financial Services Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque will debate the Commission’s recent proposal to modify the list of high-risk third countries relating to combatting money-laundering and the financing of terrorism. MEPs can block the update with an objection within two months if they so choose ( Monday/).
Plenary preparations.* Political groups will prepare for the 7 – 10 July plenary session, where MEPs will review the June European Council and look ahead at the upcoming EU-China summit. They will debate the priorities of the Danish Council Presidency which starts on 1 July with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. MEPs will also discuss the situation in the Middle East, in particular developments in Iran, the security of energy supply in the EU, as well as the EU’s preparedness in light of the upcoming wildfire season. They will debate and vote on the EU accession progress of Georgia, Albania, Bosnia and Hercegovina and North Macedonia. There will also be votes on Bulgaria’s adoption of the Euro on 1 January 2026, and on the human cost of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the urgent need to end Russian aggression.
Pre-session press briefing.* The EP’s Press Service will hold a press briefing with Parliament’s political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday/ (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
President’s diary*. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will address the World Economic Forum’s European growth and competitiveness event on Monday. On Wednesday, President Metsola presides over a Conference of Presidents meeting with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte.
