** Soirée with Molly
Saturday, 14th June at 7pm
————————————————————
Join us at The James Joyce Centre (https://www.jamesjoyce.ie/?mc_cid=ff5f2d1ff9&mc_eid=UNIQID) for an evening of song and the meanderings of Molly Bloom as she lays in her bed in the small hours of the morning performed by Caitriona Ní Threasaigh and Aching Shaiza on Satuday, June 15th at 7pm. Through this piece of stream-of-consciousness prose, songs are interwoven to enhance Molly’s story, giving a flavour of her operatic world as she contemplates her life and loves, past and present.
Tickets are €20. Doors open at 6.30pm.
** A Blooming Great Day with Úna Woods
Sunday, June 15th at 2pm
————————————————————
It seems like just another ordinary day for Rosie and her grandad. But as soon as they step outside, they find themselves on a blooming great adventure around Dublin on the 16th of June, 1904!
Author and illustrator Úna Woods will read from her new children’s book A Blooming Great Day (https://obrien.ie/a-blooming-great-day?mc_cid=ff5f2d1ff9&mc_eid=UNIQID) (The O’Brien Press) and lead a drawing workshop. The children will draw scenes from the book and design their own hats! This is a great way for children to be introduced to Joyce and to partake in Dublin’s great literary tradition.
Tickets are €10 or €5 each in our 2-for-1 special.
** Could an AI Write Ulysses? A Live Podcast
Monday, 16th June at 6.30pm
————————————————————
Join us at The James Joyce Centre (https://www.jamesjoyce.ie/?mc_cid=ff5f2d1ff9&mc_eid=UNIQID) for a special Bloomsday Festival (https://www.bloomsdayfestival.ie/?mc_cid=ff5f2d1ff9&mc_eid=UNIQID) live podcast recording that tries to answer a question that could not be more topical: Could an AI write Ulysses?
Kelly Bryan and Dermot O’Connor of the Blooms & Barnacles Podcast (https://www.bloomsandbarnacles.com/?mc_cid=ff5f2d1ff9&mc_eid=UNIQID) discuss Ulysses through the lens of current generative AI technology. Could a chatbot become the 21st century’s James Joyce? Maybe not, but could AI at least help us analyse and understand Joyce’s work better? In this discussion, Kelly and Dermot explore the artistic use case for generative AI and what it tells us about the future of creativity and literature. The two will be joined by Dr. Josh Q. Newman, an assistant at the James Joyce Centre and one of the organisers of the Bloomsday Festival.
Tickets are €10.
