Radovan Kovačević, a delegate of the Serb Club in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, pointed the finger at High Representative Christian Schmidt, accusing him of being the main culprit behind the current political and constitutional crisis plaguing Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We will not tire of repeating the truth: Christian Schmidt is solely responsible for the crisis. If he hadn’t interfered illegally and unconstitutionally in the legislative process, with the clear intention of humiliating Republika Srpska, none of this would have happened,” Kovačević stated.
According to the SNSD lawmaker, Schmidt’s intervention derailed a political path that could have led Bosnia and Herzegovina toward more effective integration with the European Union. Without his involvement, Kovačević claims, the Growth Plan, the appointment of the EU chief negotiator, and even the formal opening of accession talks would already be a reality.
Kovačević reiterated his message on the platform X, reaffirming the legitimacy of the institutional framework established by the Dayton Agreement, which provides for equal participation of the two entities and the three constituent peoples.
“Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina, where decisions are made by legitimate representatives of entities and peoples, has a future. Schmidt’s anti-Dayton BiH, where an unelected foreign official decides everything, is the fastest road to the country’s dissolution,” he wrote.
Kovačević’s remarks reflect growing dissatisfaction—particularly among Serb representatives—regarding what is perceived as a direct attack on Republika Srpska’s sovereignty and the constitutional balance of Bosnia and Herzegovina. His statements further fuel the debate over the role of the High Representative and whether international institutions are helping—or hindering—the country’s internal democratic process.
