(AGENPARL) - Roma, 4 Aprile 2025 - Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić reiterated Serbia’s commitment to defending the Dayton Agreement, stressing that the attacks on Republika Srpska and its president, Milorad Dodik, stem from violations of that agreement.
During a meeting with journalists in Banja Luka, Dačić said that the Dayton Agreement was based on the equality of two entities and three constituent peoples and that the political leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina should respect it without unilateral attempts to change it. ‘Any changes to the Dayton Agreement are only possible with the consent of all three national communities and both entities,’ Dačić said.
The Serbian minister attended the celebration of Republika Srpska Police Day, where he praised the excellent cooperation between the police forces of Serbia and Republika Srpska. ‘This cooperation will continue and strengthen, to the benefit of the security of all citizens,’ he added.
The Dayton Agreement, signed in 1995, ended the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and established the political structure of the country, ensuring a balance between the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. However, Dačić pointed out that international pressure and unilateral interpretations threatened this stability, leading to political and institutional tensions.
Serbia, as the guarantor of the agreement, will continue to support its implementation while respecting the autonomy of Republika Srpska and the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
