Community Engagement in November
Transportation Planning team will be busy with community engagement for multiple projects throughout the month of November and into the new year. Be sure to check project webpages often for updates and ways to get involved.
Public Draft Plan and Community Workshops
The Streets for People Plan will be completed in two parts. Why two parts? Transportation funding is complex and the funding supporting the Neighborhood Connections Plan requires we complete the Plan with Council adoption no later than February 2025. Our communities had so many great comments on the combined draft network we shared in Summer 2024, we want to make sure we take the time to address those for the Active Transportation Network.
The Neighborhood Connections Plan focuses on neighborhood streets and creating low-stress connections to important neighborhood destinations. The Plan includes a traffic-calming toolkit to help reduce vehicle speeds and improve quality of life along the network.
You reviewed the draft recommendations this summer, we revised based on your input and created a Draft Plan. You can review the Draft Plan on our webpage.

Review Plan
Norwood Avenue between Main Avenue and Arcade Creek is a critical corridor serving local neighborhoods including Robla and Del Paso Heights, as well as students and businesses. However, it is part of the City’s High Injury Network, corridors with a high number of transportation-related severe injuries and fatalities, and identified as a high priority project in the City’s Transportation Priorities Plan.
Community engagement for the Norwood Mobility Project kicked off in late October at the Harvest Festival at Robertson Community Center, hosted by Mutual Assistance Network. This month, the project team will continue meeting with the community through community surveys, an interactive web map on the project webpage, as well as in-person and virtual workshops in November and December.

Howe Avenue between Fair Oaks Blvd and the Power Inn light rail station south of Folsom Blvd is a critical corridor serving Sacramento State, students, businesses, and residents. However, it is one of the top ten corridors in Sacramento with the highest number of transportation-related severe injuries and fatalities.
The Connecting Howe Avenue project will kick-off public engagement this month, including pop-ins, where we will meet with the community where they are at local destinations, community surveys, an interactive web map on the project webpage, as well as in-person and virtual workshops in November and December.

The City of Sacramento is planning for a new multi-modal bridge across the American River which will create a better connection for those traveling between north Sacramento communities and downtown Sacramento. The City’s goal of providing better access between communities will improve air quality, enhance job opportunities and economic development, and improve emergency response. As the feasibility study approaches completion, the community is invited to hear from the City about some of the study conclusions and next steps for the project and share their thoughts.

It’s that time again. During the months of November through January, residents who receive City of Sacramento solid waste collection can place excess yard waste in piles on public streets to be collected.
Proper leaf collection is important to keep our community safe on the street:
Avoid placing piles in bike lanes whenever possibleAllow space between the curb and pile to prevent storm drains from being blockedCheck the Collection Calendar for dates of service and sign up for weekly reminders or service change alerts
