The James Joyce Centre is proud to sponsor “Lucia Joyce: Full Capacity,” a fascinating film-screening and talk by Dr. Deirdre Mulrooney about Lucia Joyce at Sandymount Community Centre (Newbridge Avenue, Dublin 4 D04 CP80) on Friday, October 4th at 7.30pm.
Deirdre’s film and work reclaims the misunderstood modern dance artist in 1920s Paris, Lucia Joyce, who was incarcerated in mental asylums for over forty years. The talk also involves excerpts of Deirdre’s influential radio documentary ‘Lucia, Sweet Dancer,’ about James Joyce and Nora Barnacle’s only daughter.
Deirdre’s exhibition “Come and See Me” is currently on display in the Sandymount Community Centre. It consists of photographs of Lucia Joyce, her own artwork and book illustrations (including of her father’s work), and other materials. The exhibition was previously on display in the James Joyce Centre.
Doors open at 7pm. No booking is required but donations are encouraged.
