Notes to journalists:
The second High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance [https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1d/k1divvhn1b] (10.00 to 18.00 EDT, 26 September, UN Headquarters and online) will be the principal official, health-focused event during the UNGA High-level Week.
Without decisive action, such as that outlined in the political declaration [https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1d/k1divvhn1b] for the meeting, AMR will cause even more global suffering, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The intergovernmental negotiations for the declaration were co-facilitated by Malta and Barbados.
WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will speak during the opening segment (10.00 to 10.45 EDT on 26 September, live-streamed on UN WebTV [https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1d/k1divvhn1b]).
