What is the River District Specific Plan Update? The River District Specific Plan was first adopted in 2011 and guides how the area north of Downtown Sacramento will grow and evolve over time. The City began the process of updating this document, which will include refreshing the community’s vision, goals, and policies for land use, housing, mobility, public spaces, and infrastructure to ensuring they reflect current priorities and opportunities.
About the River DistrictThe River District covers about 773 acres north of Downtown, bordered by the Sacramento and American Rivers, the Railyards, and industrial areas to the east. This historically industrial district is located at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers and is home to a growing mix of businesses, nonprofits, service providers, and new housing, making it an important part of Sacramento’s past, present, and future.
