KONE Corporation, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has
won an order to provide a suite of people flow solutions for the modernization
of the King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) also known as Dammam International
Airport, Saudi Arabia. Managed and operated by Dammam Airports Company (DACO),
the project has an instrumental role in redefining the travel experience for
more than 11.4 million passengers per year.
DACO’s modernization efforts at KFIA are particularly significant when viewed
against its record 16.2% annual increase in passenger traffic in 2023. One
contribution to this upward trend comes from the Kingdom’s plans to expand the
connectivity of the Nation, including the Saudi National Aviation Strategy’s
objectives to achieve 330 million passengers by 2030.
“KONE is proud to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s demand for smart, connected
infrastructure,” says Samer Halabi, KONE Executive Vice President for Asia
-Pacific, Middle East and Africa. “With our people flow solutions KONE can help
DACO improve on-the-ground operational efficiency. We look forward to enhancing
the transit flow of an estimated 200,000 daily equipment users while securing
the attractiveness of King Fahd International Airport as a top-performing
airfield.”
KONE’s order – due for handover in Q4 of 2025 – includes replacing and
installing 30 KONE MonoSpace® elevators, upgrading 31 KONE EcoMod escalators, 14
KONE EcoMod auto walks, and adding 11 new KONE MonoSpace® elevators. While
KONE’s installation processes are designed to minimize environmental impacts,
these energy-efficient models will help lower the overall carbon footprint.
Overall, DACO’s transformation project will help maintain KFIA’s status as one
of Saudi Arabia’s leading international airports – one which meets global green
standards and offers enhanced mobility solutions for a seamless travel
experience.
KONE booked the order in Q2 of 2024.
