aequa-tech is an innovative start-up formed by a group of NLP researchers, enthusiasts about
technology and with a great sensitivity towards social issues, digital disparity and fairness in AI.
In the age of the industrial technological revolution, Artificial Intelligence and NLP products are still
exclusive tools used by few. Only a limited number of large companies have the resources at their
disposal to invest in effective NLP solutions. We introduce ourselves in this context by proposing a
special focus on people who are often ignored by the AI world and who are most discriminated
against in the digital environment. We pay special attention to the richness generated by diversity
not only in the development process of our automated systems but also in their purposes of real
impact, to improve the quality of life of workers by ensuring a safe and inclusive space.
Our first product is Debunker Assistant (D-A) an application that allows users and newspapers to
assess the trustworthiness of a news item starting from its headline, body of text, and URL. The D-A
adapts ideas from Natural Language Processing and Network Science to counter the spread of
online misinformation. Its centerpiece is a set of News Misinformation Indicators based on
linguistically engineered features, models, and network analysis metrics (Echo Effect, Alarm Bell,
Sensationalism, and Reliability).
At aequa-tech, we firmly believe in the enduring value of manual data labeling in NLP, and we’re
excited to introduce a platform that aligns with this conviction. Our open-source Annotation
Platform is not only fast and light, but also completely free to use, ensuring accessibility for all
researchers, developers, and students in the field. We aim to create a platform that meets the
diverse needs of NLP projects and beyond. Soon we will be launching our beta version, inviting
users to join us in shaping the future of data annotation.
