Art school in Tarashcha with electric generator and battery LED lights provided as part of the project
Charitable project “Kids and Art for Ukraine” started last year in response to the war on Ukraine – to help the children affected by the war and provide them with humanitarian and educational support, and to offer psychological and therapeutic relief from the brutal reality of the war they found themselves in. The project is supported by the EBRD’s Community Initiative programme and all donations are matched on 1:2 basis. As of today we have already involved 410 young artists and provided support to 28 educational centers and art schools in excess of GBP 22,000. Now we are working to involve more children and educational centers, bring additional 200 paintings and find partners and other venues to continue the art exhibition, and meet the target of GBP 50,000 (currently 57% collected) to provide more humanitarian help.
Children still painting during the blackout with the help of provided art materials, LED lighters and generator Thousands kids and their families lost their homes, hundreds schools have been destroyed, educational process severely disrupted and kid’s childhood stolen. But despite the horrors witnessed by these children, their paintings are full of love, light and hope and this is a future they see and which we all should protect. Under the project we provided educational materials, essentials for displaced families, electric generators, power banks and LED lights to survive through this extremely difficult winter.
Sofia is 16 year old and lives in a historic town of Tarashcha, 130 km south from Kyiv. Her art school was very happy to take part in the project and with the provided help they were able to continue classes even during blackouts and without heating. While doing her painting in the cold January 2023, Sofia was dreaming and wishing that warm summer and peace in Ukraine will come soon. She loves nature and showed a beautiful and traditional Ukrainian landscape with yellow fields full of grain and blue sky. She very much wanted that her painting will express her love to the motherland and it will inspire people for more support to Ukraine.
