Prior to the vote, the Rapporteur, Mr. Alex Agius Saliba (S&D) took the floor to hail the success achieved in a short time nine months after the Commission’s proposal was put forward. He also underlined how the agreement goes beyond that proposal and will result not only in a better deal for consumers but also greater environmental sustainability of electronic devices. On 28 March 2023, Members will also hold an exchange on the Common Charger Directive and related technological developments, as well as their effects on consumers. Members are expected to enquire about the compliance with the adopted Directive of potential new approaches taken by manufacturers, e.g. using an own certification programme for USB-C cables. The exchange will be webstreamed.
