Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Ambassador Bonnie D. Jenkins is traveling to Vienna and Stockholm May 18-24, 2024.
In Vienna, Under Secretary Jenkins will attend the International Atomic Energy Agency’s International Conference on Nuclear Security. She will accompany Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk, head of the U.S. delegation; Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security Advisor; Christopher Hanson, Chair of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission; and Corey Hinderstein, Acting Principal Deputy Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration.
While in Vienna, the Under Secretary will also attend bilateral meetings, side events, and outreach engagements to emphasize the U.S. commitment to nuclear security and countering weapons of mass destruction terrorism, promote the implementation of nuclear security legal instruments, reiterate steadfast U.S. support for Ukraine, and emphasize the essential role of nuclear security in sustaining global use of peaceful nuclear energy.
In Stockholm, Under Secretary Jenkins will participate in senior meetings on reducing the risk of nuclear conflict. These meetings will be used to discuss ways risk reduction can decrease tensions, increase trust, and dispel misconceptions, thus improving the prospects for nuclear disarmament and complementing such efforts.
