Issued: 28 July 2022
This week’s edition contains information about the health and safety law poster, explaining what it covers and how to use it or the equivalent leaflet. There are also links to a revised version of our Fire safety in construction guidance publication.
In addition, we have guidance about managing drugs and alcohol misuse at work. There are also updates on recent enforcement prosecutions and you can view our latest job vacancies.
The poster explains British health and safety laws and lists what workers and their employers should do.
If you employ anyone, you must either:
– display the health and safety law poster where your workers can easily read it
– provide each worker with the equivalent health and safety law leaflet

A retail company and an electrical contracting company have been fined after an electrician suffered serious burns when he was caught in an explosion at a warehouse.
The electrician was repairing an electrical fault at the retailer’s warehouse. The metal spanner he was using came into contact with a live metallic strip linked to the power distribution, which caused an electrical explosion.
HSE’s investigation found there was insufficient planning between parties beforehand. The retailer – fined £1 million – also failed to appoint a suitably competent person to plan and carry out the work to connect temporary generators to their distribution board at the premises.

It should help you achieve good fire safety management and compliance with The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
