A fugitive in a diplomatic offensive. For many it will seem unbelievable, but among the many paradoxes generated by Sarajevo politics, this one may be unparalleled. While the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, meets with world leaders and strengthens international relations, the Bosnian political elite, the Federation media and even the Serbian opposition seem committed only to belittling him.
It is not that they do not desire the support of Republika Srpska officials, but they do not perceive it as an opportunity, voluntary or otherwise. Yet, more and more politicians and officials from Europe and around the world are highlighting this reality, without success.
Accustomed to a political environment dominated by foreign interventionism and conditioned by the positions of Christian Schmidt and Michael Murphy, the political representatives in Sarajevo seem unable to understand that this era is coming to an end.
The balance of power is changing, and the role of Republika Srpska, under Dodik’s leadership, is becoming increasingly relevant in global geopolitical scenarios.
