On 27 April, ENVI and AGRI Members will hold a joint vote on the proposal on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures for products entering Northern Ireland from other parts of the UK, as part of the Windsor Framework. ENVI Members will then vote on the medicines proposal also stemming from the Windsor framework. Members will also vote on the own-initiative report on the Sustainable Textiles Strategy
The EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles is an integral part of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan. It sets out to create a coherent framework to facilitate the transition of the textiles industry to a more sustainable and climate-neutral model by 2030. Specific ambitions include ensuring that textile products placed on the EU market are durable, recyclable and made largely of recycled fibres, free of hazardous substances and produced in full respect of human and workers. The SPS proposal lays down rules on food, plants, seeds, and pet animals entering Northern Ireland, and aims to simplify procedures for the entry, while upholding public health and consumer protection standards of both sides. The medicines proposal aims to ensure the continuous supply of medicines to patients in Northern Ireland in the same way and at the same time as in the rest of the UK.
