When browsing online for jobs as a caregiver or nanny, be aware that scammers are also looking to trick you. They post fake job announcements that look like legitimate posts and will ask for money or very personal information. [Stay safe and keep these things in mind when browsing job ads](https://connect.usa.gov/e3t/Ctc/I1+113/c3nsC04/VWQNhX2T5GzXW610JDW5qThQQW37H_hZ4VMGVsN4qMxLm3q3n_V1-WJV7CgZV1W6W–XG4ByqWyN96Q3jzsyhhtW63SMJl2csZ50W8yynld7VjpdNW5cvKxV1wZ5hhW7MMRnQ1FMqKWW4hnh-d75JYwMW6Z2KDy3SfHQxW1snLwg2rQ4cvW8P8hXL5W0XwLN1RH5DNmjzB9W7G9_Nf1FcK71W3nGgbG79HKsCW4LSkH78z4MWMVYvWf_2T2BlkW2ynFYx5ZnxQqN6bjJr3_sn0mW6cTT3W4cFsbYW8kwJGp2nfnRgW17LqT44w4zXKW8_Vz8V8kRhTrW4QMGpc5pkm48W6z-cg97_yYf0W8JZ7F9507Zt2VbHQfP2TW3_mN3nnd7mS4T_s39QC1):
Be cautious if you’re offered a job without an in person or phone interview. Scammers may have some excuse about why they can’t interview you. Keep in mind that even if you do an interview, it still could be a scam.
Another red flag is if they send you a check before you start work or if they ask for money. Employers will pay you for your services, not the other way around.
Check out the employer to ensure that the company is legitimate before giving sensitive information.
Get as many details in writing as possible.
If you think you’ve seen or experienced a scam, report it! Submit your report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and to your state attorney general.
