City of Toronto hosting VaxTO town halls about COVID-19 bivalent boosters
The City of Toronto will host a telephone town hall about the COVID-19 vaccination program on Tuesday, November 1, at 7 p.m. This telephone town hall, the first in a series of three, will be hosted by Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vinita Dubey. During the town hall, Toronto residents can ask questions about the COVID-19 bivalent booster and the current flu and respiratory and illness season.
To promote the event, approximately 300,000 broadcast voice messages from Toronto Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa have been sent out to Torontonians on cell phones and landlines inviting them to the town hall and encouraging them to make an appointment to get the COVID-19 bivalent booster if it has been at least three months since their last booster dose or infection.
Residents who have questions about COVID-19 vaccines are encouraged to join the city-wide English-language telephone town hall by calling 1-833-490-0778 or by tuning in via webstream at http://www.toronto.ca/vaccinetownhall.
As people head indoors for the fall and winter, COVID-19 has an increased opportunity to spread. It is important that everyone stays up to date with their vaccinations (including fall boosters https://www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-vaccine-eligibility-doses/?accordion=booster-doses) as this is the best protection from getting very sick. The bivalent booster can give better protection against highly contagious COVID-19 Omicron variants.
The Moderna Spikevax® Bivalent (50mcg) vaccine is available to adults (age 18 and older), and the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty Bivalent (30 mcg) vaccine is available for individuals age 12 and older. Appointments to receive a bivalent booster can be booked now through the Provincial booking system: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/.
Residents will be able to get vaccinated by Team Toronto partners, including City-run immunization clinics, primary care offices and more than 525 pharmacies.
