Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić issued a stern warning regarding the potential consequences of arresting Milorad Dodik, the President of the Republika Srpska, stating that such a decision would have catastrophic repercussions for the entire Balkan region.
In a public address, Vučić assessed the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, specifically in the Republika Srpska, where recent sentences have been issued against Dodik, Prime Minister Radovan Višković, and Nenad Stevandić, the President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.
“Any decision to arrest the President of Republika Srpska would be catastrophic for the entire region. It is crucial to understand that such an action could lead to even greater instability and tension,” Vučić stated.
Vučić also criticized the political atmosphere and accusations directed at Serbia, accusing Sarajevo of spreading lies about Serbia’s involvement in internal matters and the expulsion of a German minister, stating that Serbia had not even been informed about the minister’s visit.
“We have been exposed to countless lies, including the supposed involvement of Serbia. It is shameful that some Serbian officials are willing to collaborate with Sarajevo’s requests, even on issues dating back 20 years,” Vučić added.
According to the Serbian president, the arrest of Dodik would be an act of “betrayal” against the Serbian people, as Dodik is viewed as standing against those seeking to destroy Serbia and its people.
Vučić emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and avoiding hasty actions that could further destabilize the region.
“We must not react impulsively. The situation is already difficult, and stability must be our priority. We cannot afford to fuel further conflict,” Vučić concluded.
Vučić’s statement comes at a time of rising political and military tension in the Balkans, where political divisions and sovereignty claims in Bosnia and Herzegovina are causing growing international concerns.
