Launch event of the Special Edition of the Knowledge Makers Journal “Indigenous Women, Indigenous Peoples’ Food and Knowledge Systems, and Climate Action”
7 March 2025, Sheik Zayed Centre – FAO Headquarters, 14:00 CET
On March 7, 2025, the voices and expertise of Indigenous Women will take center stage with the official presentation of a groundbreaking special edition of the Knowledge Makers Journal.
The volume – co-published by FAO and Canada’s Thompson Rivers University (TRU) – features peer-reviewed research articles by 16 Indigenous Women from 16 Indigenous Peoples across all 7 socio-cultural regions of the world.
Titled “Indigenous Women, Indigenous Peoples’ Food and Knowledge Systems, and Climate Action,” the journal showcases research on critical topics such as food habits, community-based approaches, zero-waste practices, and pollinators, offering unique insights rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems.
The special edition is the culmination of a year-long program launched in 2022 by the Boassu Indigenous FoodLab at the World Food Forum (WFF).
Out of 101 applicants from 30 countries, 21 Indigenous Women were selected to participate—16 of whom successfully published their research through this collaborative initiative with TRU experts.
