NEW CHAIR AND BOARD APPOINTMENTS FOR
THE CLEAN ENVIRONMENT COMMISSION
Chair:
Aimée Craft (Traverse Bay) – associate professor in the faculty of law at the University of Ottawa.
Previously, Craft was the director of research for the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered
Indigenous Women and Girls and the director of research for the National Centre for Truth and
Reconciliation. Some of the honours Craft has received include the faculty of law’s Distinguished
Service Award, University of Ottawa’s Knowledge Mobilization Award, Canadian Bar Association’s
President’s Award, Order of Ontario and numerous book awards. Craft has a master of law and
society from the University of Victoria, bachelor of law from the University of Ottawa (French
Common Law Program), and bachelor of arts jointly from the University of Manitoba and
Université de Saint Boniface.
New board members:
Nora Casson (Winnipeg) – associate professor in the department of geography and Tier II
Canada research chair in environmental influences on water quality at the University of
Winnipeg and co-director of the Prairie Climate Centre at the University of Winnipeg.
Danika Bilie Littlechild (Winnipeg) – associate professor in the department of environmental
studies and sciences with a joint appointment to the master of development practice:
Indigenous development at the University of Winnipeg and UNESCO chair in collaboration for
Indigenous-led biodiversity conservation, health and well-being.
Jennifer L. Schulz (Winnipeg) – associate dean of academic and professor of the faculty of law
at the University of Manitoba as well as a Fellow of the Winkler Institute for Dispute Resolution
at Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto.
Glennis Lewis (Brandon) – teaches environmental impact assessment at Brandon University.
Lewis is a co-founder and board member of the Westman Naturalists and a volunteer with
various conservation organizations in Manitoba.
Deborah Smith (Brokenhead Ojibway Nation) – associate with JDK and Associates, served two
terms as chief of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation where Smith was responsible for community and
economic development, board member of the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation board as well
as a board member of the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba.
Durdana Islam (Winnipeg) – project director and a climate planner with Narratives in Winnipeg,
founder of the Waverley Climate Action Team and sits on the board of directors of Islamic
Social Services Association and Kahanee.

John Sinclair (Winnipeg) – professor and director of the Natural Resources Institute at the
University of Manitoba, co-chair of the public participation section of International Association
of Impact Assessment and a member of the steering committee of Canadian Environment
Network of Environmental Assessment Caucus.
Laura Rempel (La Salle) – sustainability planner and co-ordinator of the Climate Action and
Resilience Committee of Council at the City of Winnipeg, vice-president of the Winnipeg
Association of Public Service Officers.
Elaine McIvor (Wabowden) – safety and health representative and office manager at Nelson
River Logging. McIvor has over 30 years of professional federal government experience in the
environmental and intergovernmental field.
Cameron Armstrong (Winnipeg) – program specialist at the Youth Climate Lab. Armstrong is
actively involved in community engagements advocating for climate action, such as Consider
Climate, Manitoba, Climate Reality Project Canada, Earth Echo International Youth Leadership
Council and N:OW for Net-Zero.
Mark Hudson (Winnipeg) – professor in the department of sociology and criminology and the
co-ordinator of the Global Political Economy program at the University of Manitoba and
research associate and board member at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
Alan Diduck (Winnipeg) – adjunct professor in the department of environmental studies and
sciences at the University of Winnipeg. Diduck’s previous appointments and affiliations include
various roles as department chair, associate dean, professor and research associate.
Donald Labossiere (Winnipeg) – formerly the director of environmental compliance and
enforcement at Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship. Previously, Labossiere held
various roles as assistant director, supervisor, officer and chemist in environmental
organizations.
