The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25th November, followed by the annual 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence [https://www.who.int/campaigns/16-days-of-activism-against-gender-based-violence/2024], is a global moment to reflect on, renew, and amplify commitments to prevent and end violence against women and girls.
Risks increase even more for women and girls living in humanitarian emergencies – the focus of WHO’s campaign this year. Around the world today, increasingly prolonged and intense conflicts have resulted in devastating spikes in gender-based violence, while women and girls face growing challenges in accessing the vital protection and support services they need.

Release of the global infection prevention and control report
On 29th November, WHO will publish the latest global infection prevention and control report, which will provide an assessment of national and facility-level situation towards the targets established in the Global action plan and monitoring framework on infection prevention and control 2024 – 2030 [https://www.who.int/teams/integrated-health-services/infection-prevention-control/draft-global-action-plan-and-monitoring-framework-on-ipc].
Recent data from WHO and Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) estimated that up to 3.5 million patients could die each year from health care-associated infections (HAIs) without adequate action. The report will enable policy-makers, IPC professionals and health care workers to target their efforts to avoid preventable harm to patients as a result of HAIs.
