The humanitarian situation in Gaza, call for a ceasefire and preventing escalation
*In a draft resolution to be put to the vote at noon, MEPs reiterate their call for a ceasefire in Gaza to address the humanitarian emergency and allow for all hostages to be released. The risk of a violent escalation in the Middle East, also in view of the attacks by the Yemeni Houthi rebels and the response by the US and British forces, is also raised in the text.

Situation in Hungary and EU frozen funds
*Plenary will wrap up the discussion held on Wednesday with Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister Lahbib and Commission President von der Leyen on the rule of law situation in Hungary and the EU frozen funds with the adoption of a resolution at noon. MEPs are expected to support challenging the Commission’s decision to unfreeze funds for Hungary before the European Court of Justice.

Protection of marine ecosystems and Common Fisheries Policy
*From 10.00, plenary will discuss with Commissioner Sinkevi?ius the EU’s approach to bottom trawling in order to restore marine biodiversity; the implementation of the EU’s fisheries rules, and a call for improved rules on monitoring and inspections to make the market more transparent. Votes –including on a fourth text calling for more import controls and a strategy to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing- will take place at noon.

Starting at noon, plenary will vote, among others, on:
extending the list of EU crimes to hate speech and hate crime; the situation of fundamental rights in the EU in 2022 and 2023; the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in China, notably the case of Mr Ding Yuande; the threat of famine following the spread of conflict in Sudan; state repression against the independent media in Tajikistan; the 2022 annual anti-fraud report, and gender aspects of the rising cost of living and the impact of the energy crisis.
