World Soil Day 2023: Global ceremony highlights crucial link between soil and water in achieving sustainable agrifood systems
Event includes awarding of prestigious Glinka Prize and King Bhumibol Award for scientific work on soils

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will mark this year’s World Soil Day with a hybrid event on the theme: “Soil and water: a source of life”. The aim is to raise awareness on the importance of the link between soil and water in achieving sustainable and resilient agrifood systems.
FAO Director-General QU Dongyu will deliver a statement at the event which begins at 12:30 CEST on Tuesday 5 December 2023 and will be webcast here.
Speakers include Rodney M. Hunter, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States of America to the United Nations Agencies in Rome; Igor L. Golubovskiy, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to FAO; Ratchanok Sangpenchan, Charge d’Affaires of Thailand to FAO; Laura Bertha Reyes Sanchez, President, International Union of Soil Sciences
