On March 13, 2023, a delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus headed by Chief Scientific Secretary Vasily Gursky took part in a session of the Innovation Council of the Republic of Cuba chaired by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.
The main topic of discussion was the formation and development of the social and economic model of Belarus and the impact that scientific, technological and innovative activities had on it. Chief Scientific Secretary Vasily Gursky and Academic Secretary of the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Informatics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Shumilin made reports on the social and economic model of the Republic of Belarus and its innovation policy.
After the Council session, the President had a personal meeting with members of the delegation. Following the Council session, the President of Cuba instructed to form a working group headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ines Maria Chapman to analyze the experience of economic, scientific and innovative development of the Republic of Belarus in order to form proposals for its use in the Republic of Cuba.
As Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Belarus Santiago Perez Benitez noted in an interview with BelTA, the current visit of the Belarusian delegation to Cuba is a result of the intensive relations between the two countries in the field of science. He recalled that last year a number of meetings between representatives of this sphere were held, which became very productive. In particular, the visit of the Belarusian delegation to Cuba in November 2022 resulted in the signing of more than 30 documents on cooperation between the scientific centers of the two countries.
On March 8–14, 2023, a delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus headed by the Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vasily Gursky visited the Republic of Cuba. The members of the delegation held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Ines Maria Chapman, visited a number of ministries, as well as scientific and educational organizations of Cuba. Among them are the BioCubaFarma Company; the University of Informatics; the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment; the Havana Technopark; the Ministry of Economy and Planning; the Ministry of Higher Education; the Ministry of Industry, where the members of the delegation signed Cooperation Agreements with their Cuban colleagues.
