PHILLIP ISLAND, 22 FEBBRAIO 2026
** SOLIDO DEBUTTO PER L’ECOSANTAGATA ALTHEA RACING TEAM A PHILLIP ISLAND: SPETTACOLARI RIMONTE DI ZACCONE, TACCINI COSTANTE
————————————————————
Ecosantagata Althea Racing Team closes the opening round of the FIM Supersport World Championship with very encouraging signs, following the season opener held at the spectacular Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit from 20 to 22 February. In a weekend marked by unpredictable weather conditions and intense work in the garage, the team demonstrated great responsiveness and a high level of technical potential.
The standout performer of the Australian weekend was Alessandro Zaccone. Despite a challenging qualifying session that forced him to start from 22nd on the grid in both races, the rider showcased an outstanding race pace. With determination and precision, Zaccone produced two impressive comeback rides, crossing the line in eighth place in Race 1 and improving further in Race 2 with an excellent seventh-place finish.
It was a weekend focused on consistency and learning for Leonardo Taccini. Starting from 20th on the grid, Taccini battled in the midfield under not always easy conditions, bringing the bike home in both races and securing two 18th-place finishes. Valuable mileage that will allow both rider and team to refine the setup ahead of the upcoming European rounds.
The FIM Supersport World Championship will return in just over a month, from 27 to 29 March, at the Portuguese circuit of Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão for the second round of the season.
As always, the Australian weekend brought several complications that significantly penalised us in Superpole. Between a red flag, several yellow flags and a number of slow riders on track in the final minutes, we were unable to put together a competitive lap with either rider.
Despite this, the team reacted with determination: even starting from the back of the grid, Zaccone delivered two high-level performances, fighting his way up to seventh place with podium-level race pace. He deserves my compliments for the work he has done.
Taccini also showed commitment and professionalism both in testing and throughout the race weekend. The results did not fully reflect his potential, but our confidence in him is absolute: as early as the next race, he will be able to establish himself consistently among the frontrunners.
“It was a very positive weekend. We were competitive in every condition, which is not something to be taken for granted considering that we had virtually no proper testing at the end of 2025 or this year due to bad weather. Phillip Island was effectively our first real outing with the bike, but we kept improving step by step, building a solid weekend.
There is a bit of regret about qualifying: unfortunately, we got the strategy wrong and I found myself stuck in traffic, starting almost from the back of the grid without managing to complete even a single good lap. Our potential was definitely much higher, but the two results – a seventh and an eighth place – are still very positive. In Race 2 I had considered taking the gamble of starting straight away on slick tyres, but in the end I preferred not to take any unnecessary risks and to follow the group’s choice. Even on rain tyres, however, I had a very strong pace and was able to recover many positions.
As this was our first weekend together as a team, we still have a lot to learn about each other, but I’ve already seen that the potential is really high. If we continue working in this direction, I’m sure the big results will come soon.”
“It was a complicated weekend. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find the right feeling with the specific tyres that are supplied exclusively for this race. Starting from 20th position penalised us, forcing us to fight in traffic, but we still managed to finish both races in 18th place, gathering very important information and data.
Now I can’t wait to return to Europe and continue working hard with the team to take a step forward.”
