WHO Consultation on the Composition of Influenza Virus Vaccines for Use in the 2025-2026 Northern Hemisphere Influenza Season
WHO is hosting the consultations for the northern hemisphere influenza season [https://www.who.int/news-room/events/detail/2025/02/24/default-calendar/who-consultation-on-the-composition-of-influenza-virus-vaccines-for-use-in-the-2025-2026-northern-hemisphere-influenza-season] from 24 to 27 February 2025.
Influenza viruses constantly evolve, making it necessary to update vaccines periodically to ensure they remain effective in protecting people. Twice a year, WHO organizes consultations with an advisory group of experts to analyze influenza virus surveillance data generated by the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS).
Based on this analysis, WHO issues recommendations on the composition of influenza vaccines for the following influenza season. These recommendations guide national regulatory authorities and vaccine manufacturers in developing, producing, and licensing influenza vaccines.
Separate meetings are held for the southern and the northern hemisphere.
