National Autonomous University of Mexico wins 10th ICC Moot Court Competition, Spanish version

Today, 7 June 2023, the National Autonomous University of Mexico won the final round of the 10th Edition of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition, Spanish version, held in ICC Courtroom I in The Hague (Netherlands). On the judge's bench for this competition were ICC Vice President Judge Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza, presiding judge on the competition, Judge Socorro Flores Liera and Judge Sergio Ugalde Godínez.
The University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and the University of Nariño (Colombia) won, respectively, second and third places. The award for the Best Speaker went to Julieta Valentina Ricagno of the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina).
Members of the winning team are Diego Sánchez Acosta, Miguel Ángel Olvera Jácome, Juan Antonio Zamora and Héctor Germán Hernández Cardeña. The teams competed on a fictitious case, presenting oral arguments in the roles of the Office of the Prosecutor, the Defence and Legal Representatives of Victims, which were web-streamed live on the Court's website and Facebook page.
The 10th edition of the Spanish version of the ICC Moot Court Competition takes place as part of the annual Iberoamerican Week of International Justice and Human Rights, held in The Hague, and is organised by the Ibero-American Institute for Peace, Human Rights and International Justice (IIH), with the institutional support of the International Criminal Court. Top students of 10 universities from 6 countries (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico and Uruguay) participated in the preliminary stage of this year's ICC Moot Court Competition.
In the context of its Academic Programme, the ICC supports the organisation of ICC Moot Court Competitions in Chinese, English, French and Spanish, with a view to also support an Arabic version in the future. These initiatives play a critical role in galvanising interest in the Court's work with academic communities as well as in enhancing promotion and respect for international criminal law.

Aujourd'hui, le 7 juin 2023, L’Université nationale autonome du Mexique a remporté la finale de la 10ème édition de la version espagnole du concours de procès fictif de la Cour pénale internationale (CPI), qui a eu lieu dans la salle d'audience I de la CPI à La Haye (Pays-Bas). Le jury était composé de la Vice-présidente de la CPI, la juge Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza, juge présidente du concours, de la juge Socorro Flores Liera et du juge Sergio Ugalde Godínez.
L’Université de Buenos Aires (Argentine) a remporté la deuxième place, et l'Université de Nariño (Colombie) est arrivée en troisième position. Le prix du « Meilleur orateur » a été décerné à Julieta Valentina Ricagno de l’Université de Buenos Aires (Argentine).
L'équipe lauréate était composée de Diego Sánchez Acosta, Miguel Ángel Olvera Jácome, Juan Antonio Zamora et Héctor Germán Hernández Cardeña. Les équipes se sont affrontées dans une affaire fictive et ont présenté leurs arguments dans les rôles du Bureau du Procureur, de la Défense et des Représentants légaux des victimes, qui ont été diffusés en direct sur le site Internet de la Cour ainsi que sur son compte Facebook.
La 10ème édition du concours de procès fictif en espagnol a lieu dans le cadre de la Semaine ibéro-américaine de la Justice internationale et des Droits de l'Homme, tenue chaque année à La Haye, et est organisée par l'Institut ibéro-américain pour la paix, les droits de l'Homme et de la justice internationale (IIH), avec le soutien institutionnel de la Cour pénale internationale. Des étudiants de 10 universités de 6 pays (Argentine, Chili, Colombie, Espagne, Mexique et Uruguay) ont participé à l'étape préliminaire du concours de procès fictif de cette année.
Dans le cadre du programme qu'elle consacre aux milieux universitaires, la CPI soutient l'organisation de concours de procès fictifs en anglais, en chinois, en espagnol et en français, et envisage d'en soutenir également l'organisation en arabe à l'avenir. Ces initiatives jouent un rôle fondamental pour susciter dans les milieux universitaires de l'intérêt pour le travail de la Cour et pour mieux faire connaître et respecter le droit international pénal.
