Committee and political group meetings
Sustainability reporting and due diligence.* Parliament and Council negotiators will try reach an agreement on a proposal to ease sustainability reporting and due diligence obligations for companies. This is part of the “Omnibus I” package (Monday)/.
Mercosur trade deal/agriculture.* The International Trade Committee will adopt its position on a proposed safeguard clause for the trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur countries, intended to protect the EU’s most sensitive agricultural sectors (Monday)/.
EU climate law/2040 target. *Parliament and Council negotiators will seek an agreement on a Commission proposal to amend the EU Climate Law, introducing a new, intermediate and binding 2040 EU climate target of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by 90% compared with 1990 levels (Tuesday)/.
EU pharmaceutical policy.* Parliament and Council will try to conclude their negotiations on revamping EU pharmaceutical legislation. The goal is to foster innovation, and enhance the security of supply, accessibility, and affordability of medicines (Wednesday)/.
EU foreign affairs priorities*. MEPs in the Foreign Affairs Committee will quiz EU diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas on topical issues (Tuesday)/.
Long-term budget/Parliament’s draft mandate*. The Budgets Committee will hold its first discussion on its draft interim report on the multiannual financial framework (MFF) for 2028–2034. The report outlines Parliament’s negotiating mandate for upcoming talks with member states, detailing figures for each EU policy and programme. The plenary vote is scheduled in May ( Thursday/).
Plenary preparations.* Political groups will prepare for this year’s final plenary session, on 15 – 18 December, during which the 2025 Sakharov Prize will be awarded to journalists Andrzej Poczobut from Belarus and Mzia Amaglobeli from Georgia. Plenary will also discuss the December European Council summit and the European affordable housing plan, and will debate and vote on simplifying EU agriculture laws, as well as the European citizens’ initiative ‘My voice, my choice: for safe and accessible abortion’. MEPs will hold final votes on phasing out Russian natural gas imports, on sustainability reporting and due diligence requirements, and on the deforestation regulation. They will also vote on the bilateral safeguard clause of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement and on own-initiative reports on military mobility and European defence readiness for 2030.
Pre-session press briefing*. The EP’s Press Service will hold a press briefing with Parliament’s political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday/ (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
President’s diary*. On Tuesday, President Roberta Metsola will speak at an event marking 25 years of the EU Charter of fundamental Rights. On Wednesday, she will preside over the Conference of Presidents meeting and speak at an event on the Critical Medicines Act (CMA).
