Press conference: protection of minors online, Wednesday at 15.00 [2]
Following the vote on the protecting minors online report, Vice-President and rapporteur Christel Schaldemose (S&D, DK) will brief journalists on the outcome.

Background*
The own-initiative report [5], which will be debated in plenary on Tuesday afternoon and voted on Wednesday, is set to propose bans on harmful practices like addictive design and gambling-like game features, and a minimum age of 16 for social media access. It calls for swifter enforcement of the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) and AI Act and action to close legal gaps to ensure safer online services for minors.
Alarmed by mental-health risks and growing social-media addiction among young people, Parliament is seeking to curb access to dangerous content and persuasive technologies like targeted ads, influencer marketing, addictive design, loot boxes and dark patterns.
