5th Edition
Unfolding Currents: The Pulse of Time
July 5–October 5, 2025
Professional Preview: July 4
Prizren, Kosovo
Curated by Erzen Shkololli
Autostrada Biennale returns for its 5th edition—marking ten years since its founding—with Unfolding
Currents: The Pulse of Time, curated by Erzen Shkololli. Taking place from July 5 to October 5, 2025,
with a professional preview on July 4, the exhibition engages the historical and architectural layers of
Prizren, Kosovo, through newly commissioned and reimagined works by artists from across generations
and geographies.
The biennale unfolds across several key heritage sites in Prizren, including the Archaeological Museum
and Clock Tower, Shani Efendi House, Dorambari Family House, and Gazi Mehmed Pasha Hammam—
each resonating with layers of history. Embedded within the city’s urban fabric and extending into its
surrounding landscapes, these venues foster direct encounters between contemporary artistic practices
and Prizren’s complex past.
A central site of this edition is the Innovation and Training Park, a former military zone. Within this area,
Autostrada Biennale has established its permanent space — the Autostrada Hangar – Center for
Autostrada Hangar – Center for Contemporary Art
Contemporary Art. Serving as a year-round hub for exhibitions, residencies, education and production
programs, and dialogue, the Hangar embodies the biennale’s commitment to continuity and long-term
engagement.
The exhibition’s title, Unfolding Currents: The Pulse of Time, reflects the persistent and layered
transformation of historical, political, and artistic narratives. Prizren—shaped over millennia by retreating
glaciers and layered with Bronze Age remnants, Byzantine churches, Ottoman architecture, Yugoslav
infrastructure, and the marks of the Kosovo War—serves as both backdrop and active participant in the
unfolding of these currents.
Participating Artists:
Blerta Hashani, David Fesl, Brilant Milazimi, Anita Muçolli, Doruntina Kastrati, Stephanie Rizaj, Edin

“Coming from Kosovo, I bring a deep understanding of both the rootedness and the fragility of artistic
practice in this context,” said curator Erzen Shkololli. “Many of the projects in this edition—though
temporary—aim to leave a lasting imprint on both the city’s fabric and our shared memory. This is a
moment to reflect on the tensions between presence and disappearance, legacy and ephemerality.”
“The 5th Autostrada Biennale reflects what we have believed in since the beginning — that art can build
bridges between people, places, and ideas. After a decade of work, we remain committed to creating
spaces where dialogue, imagination, and connection can thrive.” — Leutrim Fishekqiu, Vatra Abrashi
and Barış Karamuço, Co-Founding Directors of Autostrada Biennale
In tandem with the exhibition, the Autostrada Archive continues to grow as a repository for artist
publications, biennale materials, and evolving curatorial insights, contributing to a long-term reflection on
the role of contemporary art in shaping cultural memory in Kosovo and beyond.
