Opening statements will be made by Atanas Zafirov, Vice Prime Minister and Chair of the National Council for Cooperation on Ethnic and Integration Issues, Genka Georgieva, Director-General for Global Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bertil Cottier, Chair of ECRI, and Ana Dzhumalieva, Chair of the CPD.
The round table is open to accredited press from 9.30 to 10 am (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (15 Noemvri Str.). A press briefing will also be organised at 3.30 pm on 23 April at the CPD premises (35 Dragan Tsankov Blvd), with the participation of the ECRI and CPD’s Chairs, as well as Jens Vedsted-Hansen, ECRI Bureau member and one of ECRI Rapporteurs for Bulgaria and Johan Friestedt, Executive Secretary of ECRI, as well as Baki Hyuseinov, Deputy Chair of the CPD.
24 April, Pristina (Kovovo*) – An event entitled “Advancing the Rights of the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian Communities – Achievements and Challenges” will will bring together government officials, civil society representatives, international partners, and local stakeholders to reflect on the progress, achievements, and remaining challenges in advancing the rights of Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities in Kosovo. It will be opened by representatives from Kosovo authorities, EU, and the Council of Europe, and will conclude with forward-looking remarks emphasising continued cooperation and policy commitment for inclusive development.
* All reference to Kosovo, whether to the territory, institutions or population, shall be understood in full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and without prejudice to the status of Kosovo.
The press is invited to record short statements from the keynote speakers at 12.45 pm and to cover the opening remarks (as from 1 pm).
