The Week Ahead: Key Events and Meetings

Session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
Among invited guests are H.R.H the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg who will speak about ending sexual violence in conflict zones, in dialogue with Chékéba Hachemi, President of “Stand, Speak, Rise Up” association; Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Communities and Territorial Development Oleksii Riabykin; Special Envoy for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Davide La Cecilia (Italy); Interior Minister of Luxembourg Léon Gloden on behalf of his country’s Committee of Ministers’ Presidency; as well as Andrea Belluzzi, Minister for Internal Affairs of San Marino.
For the first time, a delegation of Belarusian democratic forces will participate in this session.
Conference with Ombudsperson Institutions and National Human Rights Institutions on rule of Law, Human Rights, and Digital Governance
27-28 March, Strasbourg – A high-level conference will be held in the framework of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, focusing on key challenges related to the rule of law, the role of Ombudsperson institutions and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), and the evolving risks and opportunities in public decision-making in the digital age.
The event will offer Ombudsperson institutions and NHRIs a platform to engage with the Council of Europe through workshops on human rights protection during crises, the Venice Principles, the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights, and collaboration opportunities, as well as the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence.
The conference will take place in the Council of Europe’s premises in Strasbourg, in English and French, and simultaneous interpretation available.

The team will meet representatives from the Sport department of the Irish Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and from Sport Ireland. Representatives from the sport movement including the Olympic and Paralympic Committees, sports federations, non-organised sport, athletes, the private sector and others will participate in these meetings which will be complemented by visits to sports facilities such as the Sport Ireland Institute and the National indoor arena.
24-27 March, Brescia/Reggio Emilia (Italy) – Representatives from the Moldovan cities of Călărași, Cimișlia, Dubăsari and Soroca will carry out a study visit to the Italian cities of Brescia and Reggio Emilia where they will meet these cities´ representatives to share experiences on local level initiatives against hatred and combat discrimination against the most vulnerable in society. Participants include including municipal councillors, police officers, social workers, and civil society activists and equality bodies representatives. The visit to Brescia – including a round table, a workshop and several presentations – will take place from 24 to 26 March and will be followed by meetings in Reggio Emilia
on 27 March. The event is open to the media.
25 March, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing five judgments concerning Greece, Serbia, Türkiye and the United Kingdom.
27 March, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing 15 judgements and/or decisions concerning the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland and Ukraine.
