Please find below a Flash Update 01 (in French ) published by WHO AFRO and WHO DRC Country Office on 29 January 2025 on the situation in Goma.
Here are some key points ( In English), data as of 29 January 2025:
Hospitals in Goma are saturated with the influx of wounded people. There are reports of 2029 wounded in health facilities and other points of care, and 45 dead across 3 health zones (Goma, Karisimbi and Nyiragongo) in North Kivu. The risk of spread of mpox, cholera and measles has increased due to displacement people leaving healthcare facilities where they were receiving treatment. The disruption of the water supply in the city of Goma over the last six days is also compounding the risk of spread of cholera and other water-borne diseases.Major health needs include increasing hospital capacity, reinforcing fuel stores and other supplies, mental health and psychosocial support, and safety of humanitarian supplies and personnel.Thirty-two attacks on health care have been verified by WHO in North Kivu since 2024.WHO is strengthening coordination with health partners in affected areas, and has brought in supplies to treat 2000 injured people, and 25 tents to increase hospital capacity by 1000 beds. WHO has also brought in supplies to treat 10 000 cholera patients, and emergency health supplies for 320 000 patients.
