Global Report on Food Crises 2024 and hybrid high-level launch event – 24 April 2024, 14:00-15:30 CEST, Sheikh Zayed Centre, FAO Headquarters, Rome
Key stocktaking report provides overview of the state of global food crises, including trends, key drivers and associated risks
On 24 April 2024, the Global Network Against Food Crises (GNAFC) – a multi-stakeholder initiative working to address the root causes of food crises and promote sustainable solutions – will release the new edition of the Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC 2024), produced by the Food Security Information Network (FSIN).
The report provides a comprehensive analysis of key factors driving food crises globally, including conflict, weather extremes and economic shocks.
The 2024 edition of the annual report finds that the number of people facing acute food insecurity remains persistently high jeopardising sustainable development and gains made over the previous years.
The report warns that intensifying conflict and insecurity, the devastating impact of extreme weather events driven mainly by El Niño, and economic shocks, such as spiralling inflation and volatile food prices, cast a shadow over the outlook for 2024.
The report also prominently features crises requiring immediate action such as Gaza and Sudan. In 2023, Sudan faced the worst deterioration in terms of the amount of people having been pushed into acute hunger (IPC/CH Phases 3-5), while the Gaza Strip had the highest number of people in Catastrophe levels (IPC/CH Phase 5).
The Global Report on Food Crises 2024 is produced for the Global Network Against Food Crises (GNAFC) by the Food Security Information Network (FSIN) and represents the views of 16 of the world’s leading humanitarian and development organizations.
The report and press release will go live at 12:00h CEST on the FSIN website http://www.fsinplatform.org and GNAFC website http://www.fightfoodcrises.net. It will be accompanied by a joint news release produced by eight Global Network partners.

About the Global Report on Food Crises
The Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC) is an annual flagship report involving commitment and contributions from 16 international humanitarian and development partners coordinated by the Food Security Information Network (FSIN) in support of the Global Network Against Food Crises (GNAFC) – a multistakeholder initiative working to address the root causes of extreme hunger.
Since 2016, the report has been providing a global picture of the scale and magnitude of food crises, by compiling the main global and regional food security analyses through a transparent and consensus-based process. It aims to inform and promote timely, cost-efficient, need-based humanitarian (and resilience-building) actions. The report is made possible thanks to the support of the European Union.
