*Workload Reduction Taskforce*
We know that heavy workload is a longstanding and complex issue. Reducing workload requires a joint effort from the DfE, Ofsted and school and trust leaders, to find better ways of working and share good practice.
Last week we announced a Workload Reduction Taskforce, made up of representatives from all four teaching unions, teachers, leaders, academics and other sector experts. The Taskforce will provide insight from across all parts of the education sector, from on the ground perspectives to those in positions of management and leadership, to develop a set of recommendations to help drive down unnecessary workload.

*Flexible working toolkit*
We also know that flexible working opportunities can help to recruit, retain and motivate teachers and leaders and help promote staff wellbeing.
Our new flexible working toolkit is a collection of resources produced by school leaders and other sector experts, together with DfE. These resources will support school leaders to implement flexible working and support school staff to request flexible working. The toolkit contains resources to:
* *build understanding* through evidencing and communicating the benefits of flexible working.
* *support strategic implementation *with a guide for school leaders and an example of a flexible working policy.
* *support operational implementation* by using the flexible working flowchart and a template for requesting and considering statutory flexible working requests.
This builds on a wider programme of support [ https://www.flexibleworkingineducation.co.uk/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] DfE has funded to support flexible working in schools and multi-academy trusts, including regional and specialist peer support and the delivery of a series of supportive webinars.

*Workload reduction toolkit*
Developed with school leaders, the school workload reduction toolkit helps schools to review and reduce workload.
In the toolkit, you’ll find resources to help you:
* discover example policies and protocols shared by schools who have changed their approaches to lesson observation, parents’ evenings, and internal communication. You can explore curriculum planning resources. [ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/school-workload-reduction-toolkit?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery#curriculum-planning-and-resources ]
* consider feedback and marking – find out how some schools reduce time spent marking and read some example feedback policies. You can access tools to help review your marking practice. [ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/school-workload-reduction-toolkit?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery#feedback-and-marking ]
* assess the impact of the action you take – use these tools to evaluate your outcomes [ https://www.gov.uk/guidance/school-workload-reduction-toolkit?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery#evaluate-the-impact ] and understand whether the action you’ve taken is having the desired effect.
