CUT to honour Shameel Joosub at the 2023 Spring Graduation Ceremony

The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) will celebrate a new cohort of graduates at the 2023 Spring Graduation Ceremony. This season will see 228 undergraduates, including 23 master’s and six doctoral recipients. The prestigious ceremony will take place at the Boet Troskie Hall on the Bloemfontein Campus.
The university will also confer an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Management Sciences (Business Administration) to businessman and head of Vodacom, Shameel Joosub. Joosub currently serves on the Vodacom and Vodafone executive committees in his capacity as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Vodacom Group Ltd., a position he has held since 2012.
He has extensive business and telecommunications experience, having operated at a senior level in various companies across the group for the past 28 years, including serving as Managing Director at Vodacom South Africa and CEO at Vodafone Spain. His approach to leadership prioritises maintaining a working environment that celebrates diversity and promotes a common purpose and vision. For Shameel, supporting gender empowerment is a key priority. This includes promoting female participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through various initiatives, starting at a young age, such as “Code Like a Girl”, and supporting the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) using technology such as Vodacom’s GBV reporting app. During Shameel’s tenure, Vodacom has made strides in gender equality in its workplace, with Vodacom South Africa’s Exco now being 50% female oriented.
