International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development draws to an end
Closing ceremony at FAO in Rome, 26 April 2023, 12.30 CEST
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will host a global high-level ceremony on Wednesday, April 26, to conclude the celebrations of the [International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development 2022](https://www.fao.org/mountain-partnership/internationalyear2022/en/).
The ceremony, which will take place in hybrid form at FAO’s headquarters in Rome, aims to look ahead and further engage governments, United Nations agencies and other relevant partners to define a joint roadmap for the protection of vulnerable mountain ecosystems while building the resilience of mountain peoples. This will be achieved within the framework of the [Mountain Partnership](https://www.fao.org/mountain-partnership/en/) and under the leadership of FAO in its capacity as lead agency for mountains within the United Nations system.
The event’s high-level segment will be moderated byZhimin Wu, director of FAO’s Forestry Division, and will include contributions from:

To mark the event, FAO and UNWTO will also publish a joint study entitled Understanding and Quantifying Mountain Tourism, which addresses the need for relevant data and provides information to improve our understanding of mountain tourism.
